Roads Authority issues road update Staff Reporter

THE ROADS Authority (RA) has issued an update on the roads that were temporarily closed in mid-February due to damage caused by heavy rains in the Kunene and ||Karas regions. The DR2628 road at the Unib River as well as the DR212 road between Aussenkehr and Rosh Pinah will remain closed to all traffic until further notice.

The RA also stated that the Skelm River Bridge has also been closed due to flooding at the Skelm River. However, repairs have commenced and the rest of the MR128 road between Palmweg and Sesfontein is open to all traffic.

Several other roads have also been repaired and are fully operational. These roads include the MR118 Road between Rosh Pinah and Oranjemund, the DR 463 road between Keetmanshoop and Lüderitz and the TR4/1 road between Keetmanshoop and Goageb. The RA stated that the section at Langasem Pass, which was washed out of approximately 7 km, will be repaired in due course.

Damages have also been repaired on the DR 2612 road in the Twyfelfontein area. The section between the Aba-Huab River and the Twyfelfontein turnoff was also repaired and is accessible with any vehicle. However, while the road on the southern side of the river can be used by any vehicle, the road on the northern side is only passable with 4x4 vehicles.

The road between Kamanjab and Palmweg, the Ugab bridge at the MR76 road between Uis and Khorixas, and the DR 2302 road in the Terrace Bay area can also only be used by 4x4 vehicles at the moment. “We appeal to all motorists to plan their journeys ahead of time and find out of any road closures/floods on their intended routes and to report any road damages at the RA Corporate Communication Office at 061 284 7059/7167 (during office hours), via email at pr@ra.org.na or on the RA Facebook page,” the RA stated.
